Enterprise Architecture Jobs Are In Demand |
|
The
good news is that there are some bright
spots in the IT Job market. With all of the
dismal news to date, Janco Associates was
surprised to see an up-tick in demand for
positions related to enterprise
architecture. Typically, the drive for
enterprise architecture is to improve
productivity as functional changes that are
minor modifications to existing systems and
to development of new systems. When changes
are undertaken with a tactical viewpoint as
opposed to an enterprise viewpoint, the
results are changes that are hard-to-manage
and fragmented landscape.
Enterprises are now turning to enterprise
architecture as a solution to better manage
and control IT investments. Change in
today's business landscape now are driving
CIO to evaluate enterprise architecture as
a solution for cost control, service level
management, and implementation of
productivity metrics for IT and the
enterprise as a whole.
The drivers that Janco see for the movement
towards enterprise architecture are:
-
Business consolidations and mergers
-
Mandated and industry standard
compliance requirements such as SOX,
HIPAA, and PCI-DSS
-
Business cost reduction programs
-
Technological advancements such a
Smartphones and portability of data and
applications with USB devices
-
Infrastructure consolidation at data
centers and with outsourcers
-
Movement from legacy mainframe
applications to user-friendly Internet
applications
-
Open source architecture requirements
-
Movement to open standards by major
providers of software such as Adobe (pdf)
and Microsoft (Open Office)
CIOs now know that enterprise architecture
drivers are best addressed by a long term
synergy between IT and business roadmaps to
replace tactical moves with strategic ones.
That is the reason for the increased demand.
